Fill-In Show - Sax Therapy, 9/21/05

he should have lived on

DOLPHY

warm

Lucked out and got a chance to perform a little Sax Therapy, Jeff Robinson's tribute to that most versatile of reeds - and all of it's many shades & textures. I really enjoyed doing this show, even though I was only halfway awake - I hope to get another chance down the line, because I had so much more to play! Please take a listen by clicking on the Roland Kirk LP below, and be sure to check out Jeff and Sax Therapy alternate Tuesdays 10:00-Midnight EST on 88.1 FM, WMBR - Cambridge, MA

The Exciters

Back to business today, and business is good. Lots of newly acquired funky goods front-load this mother, but the WMBR record library comes back strong, revealing some lost gems filed away untouched for years.
What is this, the Louvre?
Of greater import is the inclusion of more Elisha Cook, Jr. than most people can handle in a 2 hour span - will you survive?

Too Much History

Easy show to prepare today, at least in a way - the real problem was cutting down to only two hours of all Louisiana/Mississippi artists! In a tribute to the areas hit hardest by the terrible hurricane of last week - and subsequent relief travesty - we dig deep in the county registers and learn that many so-called "Chicago" and "Detroit" artists were born in Mississippi - and that being a musician in New Orleans is pretty much a fact of birth! Many people went unplayed that deserved attention, I really wanted to play Eddie Bo and B.B. King but either forgot or just ran out of time...oh, and meant to squeeze in the Hillbilly Cat from Tupelo, too!

Alright, let's get to it Ol' Howard - just point your gun that way down Highway 61, click the trigger and let's get down with it! Full playlist just below, to keep track of all those misplaced Mississippians...and please check the links at the bottom of the playlist to find some charity options, including rare records being auctioned off to help with the relief efforts!
